FAQs
WHAT IS REIKI?
Reiki is a Japanese system of natural healing (Usui Reiki Ryoho) as well as a spiritual method for personal growth and transformation.
Usui Reiki origins stretch back to Dr. Mikao Usui, founder of the Reiki system in Japan late 19th century. Being a respected and learned Buddhist teacher, Usui’s focus of teaching was on healing and benefitting human kind through healing practice. Reiki teachings were formally introduced to the West in early 1970’s. Around the world Reiki is practiced regardless of the practitioners religion, creed, race or social status.
The word Reiki translates from Japanese to REI - meaning universal and KI meaning energy.
WHO CAN RECEIVE REIKI HEALING?
Anyone can receive Reiki, humans, animals and even plants. From the human perspective, Reiki can be beneficial from as early as being pregnant, growing a little human being in the belly, throughout all stages of life, until the last breath. Reiki is a wonderful practice enhancing your physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health, no matter your age, or diagnosis, chronic conditions or life-changing events. Reiki is known to have no contraindications to any medical condition or pharmaceutical support. Many healthcare professionals have witnessed the positive healing effect and peacefulness that Reiki brings to the individual, both patients and carers.
As Reiki is safe to be practiced in anywhere, it is often offered as a complimentary therapy in hospitals, Aged Care and Cancer Care facilities as well as hospice.
Reiki can be received anywhere, in person and as Absent Reiki Healing.
WHAT HAPPENS DURING A REIKI SESSION?
Reiki is a traditional hands-on healing practice with the client being fully clothed, laying on a comfortable massage table, covered by a blanket for comfort. The practitioner confirms with the client hand positions such as feet, legs, arms, hands, head or specific areas of pain such as lower back, hips, neck, shoulder, especially after an injury or surgery. The recommended time for a Reiki session is between 30 to 90 minutes. Most reiki sessions are 60 minutes, with the client feeling calm, relaxed, lighter, less stressed and often pain-free.
At Biota in Harmony, every Reiki session starts with a short consultation prior to the treatment. We always offer a glass of water and recommend staying hydrated after your session.
Reiki can also be given in a seated position on a chair, with the practitioner placing her hands on head, shoulders and much loved, the hands themselves.
HOW OFTEN SHOULD I HAVE REIKI?
Many people share instant benefits and changes such as pain relief, less anxiety, inner peace, a sense of calmness, better sleep as well as emotional balance and mental clarity. Reiki alleviates symptoms, but it does much more as the healing happens deeper, on a cellular level. Reiki energy works with your physical body and subconscious mind realigning and activating the body’s ability for self-healing. Reiki focusses on the cause of a dis-ease, helping to dissolve and return to a balanced and harmonious state of being. Traditional Japanese Reiki clinics would see their clients on a daily basis until the symptoms and cause of the illness has been healed. In Western Reiki tradition many practitioners recommend three to four consecutive treatments (60-90 minutes) to fully benefit from the healing energy received.
DOES REIKI HELP IMPROVE SLEEP?
Yes Reiki helps sleeping better and longer, waking up rested and energised. Many of our clients have reported improved sleep patterns from the first time they experience Reiki. Often the client falls asleep during the session, a sign that body and mind are deeply at rest.
As Reiki is a self-healing practice, it is recommended to learn the art of USUI Reiki and the benefits that come with it, like feeling calmer, sense of wellbeing and happiness. The first thing Reiki students share in the workshop is how quickly they fell asleep applying Reiki to themselves.

WHY USE THERAPEUTIC GRADE ESSENTIAL OILS?
“ Quality is the defining factor in whether or not an essential oil is actually going to accomplish what you’d like it to.” - Dr David Hill, dōTERRA Founding Executive and Chairman of Scientific Operations
Essential oils and aromatics have been used for thousands of years and it was quite some time before modern essential oils emerged thanks to a Persian physician and alchemist names Avicenna, who developed true essential oil distillation in the 11th century. Ancient civilisations from China to Greece used plant-based therapeutic practises for many years, creating a foundation that scientists and physicians built upon later. Our scientific understanding of essential oils has come a long way since then. With advancements in technology and years of research, we can finally tap into the full power of pure, therapeutic grade essential oils.
